Background

The Foundation of India’s Microelectronics Movement

Based upon the one-day Symposium held during 1985 and the overwhelming participation it was decided to coordinate all the Micro Electronics activities in India among various academic Institutions, R & D Laboratories and other Industries. Prof.Sonde the doyen of the Micro Electronics in India has initiated the activity and arranged for the establishment of the Indian Society for Hybrid Micro Circuits i.e. ISHM (India Chapter) a ? non profit technical society drawing the membership with like minded experts in the area of Micro Electronics in India. This ISHM Society has been functioning and organising periodic conferences of National and International participation till 1995.

Evolution into IMAPS India

International Micro Electronics and Packaging Society is the outcome of the successful merger of ISHM & IEPS. This society came into existence since November 1996 and drawing affiliation to the IMAPS International Chapter globally. Subsequently, IMAPS India has successfully conducted three international conferences namely EMIT-96, EMIT-98 & EMIT-2K at Bangalore with overwhelming participation globally. It is to be noted that around 50 NRI participants are significantly contributing to the IMAPS activity in India.

Subsequently, the Society was registered under the Karnataka Government Societies ACT and presently it is a full-fledged registered society having its office at :

The Office bearers of the registered society are elected among the members once in two years. This Society has successfully conducted one national conference namely IINC-2004, at Bangalore with the presentation of about 40 papers addressing state-of-the-art activities in India. Presently, it is organsing another National Conference IINC-2005 jointly with IIT, Mumbai and IEEE, Mumbai Chapter during December 2005 at Mumbai.

It is proposed to revive the International Conference and accordingly it is planned to organise an event during December 2006 for which the society is soliciting participation from International IMAPS Chapter. The Society is presently looking forward to a good collaborative effort from various IMAPS especially from IMAPS-USA, IMAPS-NORDIC. The present Executive Committee of the Society is :

Objectives of IMAPS

The Society shall be a voluntary, non-profit making body of persons associated for the purpose hereinafter appearing.

To promote learning and to advance education in science, technology and application of microelectronics for the benefit of common man.
To extend, increase and disseminate knowledge of microelectronics, for which purpose meetings may be held, demonstrations given, exhibitions and conferences promoted, papers, pamphlets, journals and other writings published for the benefit of general public.
To collect and preserve literature, documents, recordings, or other writings whether published or not, or any equipment or finished product which the committee may consider desirable to retain, and make them available for reference, thereby to assist the knowledge, development and improvement of the science, technology and application of microelectronics for the benefit of common man.
To affiliate or join in association with any other charitable body, institution or society holding similar interests and objects in pursuit of the above objects.To affiliate or join in association with any other charitable body, institution or society holding similar interests and objects in pursuit of the above objects.
To maintain awareness where appropriate, co-operate in the activities of those societies concerned with related electronic engineering technologies, for example, semi conductor technology and printed circuit technology and hybrid microelectronics.
To uphold the good standing of the society and conduct it's affairs in accordance with this Rules and Regulations as they now are or may be letter amended.
To open provisional local centers as per the modalities framed by the Committee.
Income of the Association by whatever means shell be utilized for the objects of the society and shall not be distributed among its members or any body.
The chairman of the Association is authorised to correspond with Registrar of Societies.
